"E" Team We Care Newsline: Linda Hardisty
All-Mom is in the hospital again and has been there since Sunday night. They are treating her with steroids for her MS and until they can stabilize her she will be staying put. After that, they are talking about getting her into some sort of nursing home / rehab center so that she can have physical therapy every day and getting her back into tip top shape.
She is still having some aberrations, for the lack of a better term, (seems to be worse than last week) because she doesn't know who I am when I call her on the phone. Very frustrating, but we are keeping spirits up to help her get through this difficult time. She wants to say things, but the words are just not there.
Please keep mom in your prayers as we are hoping for the mom that I knew just a month ago at Wing Ding.

I had surgery on my right hand on Wednesday, the 6th of August. Beverly is having a knee replacement on Thursday, August 14.
We are in the process of setting the house up so that Beverly can navigate around with a walker, wheelchair, or whatever she has to use. to get around with. Needless to say, as I can't drive or use my right hand for anything, so we are having a great time(HA-HA)
Sorry to say, it does not look like we will be at the bike show, however if I am up to it, I hope to stop by for a while.

Ride To All Chapters Picnic

A Whole Lot Of Riding This Weekend
Team,It's time to ride. The All Chapters Picnic will be this Saturday at Locust Shade Park in Triangle. We will meet at WAWA Central (at Harrison Rd) @ 8:45am, depart @ 9:00am.
Also, we will be having a dinner ride to Harrisonburg (VA - R) on Sunday to capture the Virginia District traveling plaque. I need everyone to go with us to get this plaque so if you can only do one ride this weekend, we want you on Sunday. As I stated at our general meeting, we need full chapter support to get this plaque so please help us and plan to attend. We will be departing WAWA West (on Rt 3 west of the mall) @ 1 pm sharp for this ride. It will be a beautiful ride over the mountains to Harrisonburg. We will be having dinner on this ride at either their meeting place of Golden Corral or maybe we can return by Dan's Steak House on the mountain for dinner.
I need a head count for Sundays ride so please respond ASAP. Also let me know if you plan to attend Saturdays ride.

"E" Team We Care Newsline: Gil Howard **UPDATE**
As some of you may know, Gil Howard and Larry Gray were involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening en route to Cap't Billy's at Pope's Creek. Both Gil and Larry went down, but Gil had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital in La Plata, MD.Larry is fine and the bike is repairable. Gil's bike was not so fortunate as it is probably totaled. He was cleaned up and stitched up, but since La Plata is not equipped for trauma patients, he was transported to Mary Washington hospital for the injury to his middle finger. It appears as though he will lose the tip of is middle finger due to the fall. He will see Dr. Constantine on Monday and will probably have the finger tip surgically removed on Wednesday.
Please keep Gil in your thoughts and prayers as he recuperates.
**UPDATE**
It's Monday evening and here is another update and hopefully the final one on Gil. Ray heard from his neighbor today after she took him to see Dr. Constantine. It seems he was able to reattach the tip of his finger. He says that hopefully it will take and heal alright. The only thing he may lose is his fingernail. Right now it is just a matter of time to see if the tip begins to heal. If it doesn't then it will have to be amputated. All of your prayers sure must be with him because he sure was lucky both yesterday and then today. Continue your support and this will be the last report from me unless there is anything major.

Pope's Creek Dinner Ride Rescheduled
Team,We have rescheduled the Popes Creek dinner ride scheduled for this Sunday May 18th. In it's place we will participate in a memorial service for Donna Thomas. We will meet at the route 17 WAWA at 12:45 for a 1 pm departure. That will get us there no later than 2:30 where we can offer our condolences to the family.
We will go for a dinner ride after the service at a place to be determined. I will lead this ride. See the May newsletter for additional details.

Maintenenace Day & Potluck
Team, We will be having a maintenance day this Saturday at my home. We start at 9 am with maintenance (fluid changes, bulb changes, etc.). Bring your own supplies to work on your bike. Greg and Larry will be available to guide us and help out. I am also offering my hose and buckets if anyone wants to wash and shine. At noon we will have lunch. The chapter will provide dogs and joes, chips and sodas. Please bring a dish to share. This is our May potluck so come on out even if your not working on your bike.Direction to my home: from route 1 at our general meeting place (Dynasty Buffet), go south on route 1 to the next light (Taco Bell, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Rite Aid on the corners), turn left on Mine Rd, go through the next light then proceed a little over half a mile. You will see a fire department on your right. Take the next right after the fire department onto Norfolk, go 5 houses to end ( T intersection), turn left onto Amelia and go 5 houses to end ( T intersection), turn right on North Hampton and I am the fourth home on the right, 10304.

Frednecksberg E-limpiks!!
How Yall Doing?!I just wanted to remind you that Chapter E Fredericksburg will be holding their primary event, The Frednecksburg E Limpiks, this Saturday May 10th (see flyer).
The ground hog said the weather is going to be sunny on Saturday so come on out and visit with us. We have sloppy joes, dogs, a lot of side vittles plus desserts and beverages all included in your registration.
Again, we will be having our redneck games ( Hurlin, Spittin, Hillbilly Horseshoes, Crap Shoot, and our world famous Tractor Pull). You can play each game free with your registration. Retries for a better score are a buck.
First, second and third place winners will receive a medal and a gift card from our rednecks favorite place to shop, Wal-Mart. Our game prizes will include a few special things for the rug rats.

Ride To The Wall
Once again we are planning on canceling our meeting for the month of May and having breakfast the morning of the ride to the wall. We are hoping Chapter E can join us for the breakfast and possibly for the ride.We have one member, Ellen Comstock, that is looking for someone that might be interested in having a passenger for the ride. She does not have her own bike and would to accompany someone to the wall. She also has a pass for Arlington Cemetery if any of the members would like to take a ride to the cemetery that day.

Ride To Chapter VA - I
The "E" Team is going to a Bull Roundup. Chapter I in Manassas is having their second annual Bull Run Round Up this Saturday the 12th. A bunch of us headed up there last year and had a wonderful time and some great stew. Well, this year, the herd has moved and the Roundup had to follow to a new location, the Lake Jackson Fire Hall on Coles Road. Here are the details:$10 per person.
Bring a can of vegetables and receive extra game tickets (the vegetables go into the stew, any cans leftover are donated to charity).
We will be meeting at 9 am at WAWA central on Route 1 in Fredericksburg. Anyone north of us can be waiting at the WAWA in Stafford on route 1 just south of Aquia. We will alert you by radio as we approach. We will continue up route 1 to route 234, and then it's 13 miles up 234 to Coles Fire Hall. Food to be served at noon.
E Team, I ask you to come out and support our fellow chapters. This will be our first large group ride this year (and I get to ride my bike, I have been practicing since my surgery). Please get your bikes prepped and ready for some fun. If you can't ride the bike, come by car.

Team Riding Seminar
From Larry GrayI plan to present the GWRRA Team Riding seminar at Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg on March 22 (Saturday). Like the Crash Scene Response seminar last month, I expect this seminar to last longer than the standard 45 minute version given when a time schedule must be adhered to. (I expect 2 or more seasoned Road Captains to attend and offer their comments and I always encourage audience participation when firsthand experiences are relevant or questions arise because I've breezed over something too quickly.) I think these "no-time-constraint" versions are really worthwhile because the open discussion time really scratches people where they itch.
This seminar is just as applicable to co-riders as riders.
If you are interested in attending please let me know at larry.e.gray@boeing.com or here. At the Crash Scene Response seminar last month we had 29 attendees and everyone had a seat. Perfect. But, I'm distributing this invitation to a wide audience and if there is interest, I may have to run two sessions back-to-back.
If we have a single session, it will start at 9:30 AM. I will have further information once I get a sense of interest in this seminar.
Don't confuse this seminar with the Road Captain's course. Both the Team Riding Seminar and the Road Captain's course are great things for all of us to participate in but the Team Riding seminar is the bare minimum everyone who rides in our group rides should take so nobody zigs when everyone else zags. Although not a strict requirement, the Team Riding seminar makes a good prerequisite to the Road Captain's course.
March 23rd is Easter. I didn't realize this when I made my Gander Mountain reservation but this timing may be problematic for some. Sorry.
Finally, VA-Y is planning to give this seminar in Leesburg very soon. If that venue is more convenient for you, you might check into that.

When coming down route 20 and you get to the 4 and a half mile point slow down, because the next patch of woods on your left is where you turn. If you make it to the school you went too far. When you see the word SCHOOL wrote on the road, make the next left turn up dirt road driveway which is Gamin Run Drive, and we are the first and second driveway on left.

Please join us for our Veteran's Day Ride on Sunday, 11 Nov, at 1145, at the Roy Rodger's Parking Lot, 451 S. King St, Leesburg, VA 20176. This is our last organized ride of the season!
Mike Hennig will lead the group on a ride saluting our Nation's veterans. Many folks in the chapter are veterans, and this ride salutes you! Many thanks for your contribution to our Nation and our freedom!!
Mike plans a memorable ride, catching the last of the fall colors painting the nearby forests threaded by the roads in the horse and grape countryside of Virginia . The ride should return to Leesburg about 4 PM.
Please arrive dressed warm, including warm gloves and scarves, eaten, and gassed. ;)

Wanda Hoeferkamp Update
Below is a note from Ed Hoeferkamp regarding the status of Wanda:Hello,
Wanda was sent home from MWH Monday afternoon after having a Pace maker surgery last Friday. She is doing well, however she is experiencing some pain from the implant. Normally the pacemaker is placed under the skin close to the left collar bone, however during surgery they found that the vein on the left side leading to the heart was blocked, so they had to make the same incision on the right side for the pacemaker and place the two leads from the pacemaker into the heart. Both leads are fed into the right side of the heart through the vein, with one lead placed in the upper quad and the other placed in the lower quad of the right side of the heart. The two leads control the heart beat between 60 beats on teh lower and 110 beats on the upper level. With this control they can control the AFibulation with medication safely. Whew!

Don’t forget this Saturday (October 13, 2007) is Chapter E’s Fall Fantasy Fun Run. We hope everyone can make it out to have a great time to eat something hot and meet folks from other chapters.Please be at Curtis Park (in Hartwood , VA off Rt. 17) no later than 9:00 a.m. to help set up. Please bring a soup, chili or stew to share along with a dessert. There will be judging of the hot items, so bring your spiciest, most flavorful dish. We eat at noon. Dinner Ride To Old Country Buffet 10/11
You're invited to a dinner ride this Thursday October 11th at Old Country Buffet at 6:30. Old Country Buffet is located on Rt 3 across from BJ's. Wanda Hoeferkamp In The Hospital
Team,Wanda Hoeferkamp was admitted to Mary Washington Hospital tonight with a very irregular heart beat. They will keep her overnight for observation. When I left at 9:30 pm, her blood pressure was starting to stabilize, however, her heart beat was still irregular. Ed is with her and she is resting comfortably. Please keep Wanda and Ed in your prayers. She is very upset that she may miss Rally in the Valley. Pray that she will stabilize and the doctor will clear her for the journey to Salem.
I will keep you posted as I hear more.

Ed just informed me that the doctor's are keeping Wanda in the hospital for 2 more days so they can monitor her heart. After that, they will decided what procedure or form of treatment they will give her. Ed said they are both heartbroken (no pun intended) over not being able to go to Rally in the Valley and cheer on Sly and Tina. Please keep them both in your prayers as they go through this ordeal.

RALLY IN THE VALLEY CAMPING
There will be no camping at the Rally site before Thursday, except for Virginia District Staff and certain rally workers. Absolutely no one will be allowed in the camping area at the rally site before late Thursday morning. GWRRA does not have exclusive use of the Civic Center and its grounds until noon on Thursday, October 4th. The Civic Center has been gracious enough to let GWRRA set up the vendors late Wednesday evening so we can have every thing in place for our 3 PM kick-off Thursday afternoon. No one will be allowed in the vendor area prior to that time.No campers will be allowed to set up because there will be no services available before noon on Thursday. That means port-a-potties, showers, indoor bathrooms, etc. Those campers with self contained units can dry camp in the upper parking lot Wednesday evening but will not be allowed to use any of the Civic Center facilities and will not be allowed into the camping area until late Thursday morning.
Also, please note the increase in camping fees for this year. If you are camped in an area where water, sewer, and electric is available, your cost is $35 per night regardless of what services you use. If you are camped in an area serviced by water and electric but no sewer, the cost is $25 per night regardless of what services you use. Any camper, including all tent campers, in an area where no services are available will be charged $15.

Sgt David Alan Ruhren Memorial Ride
All,The Memorial Ride in honor of Sgt David Alan Ruhren is Saturday, September 22 at Garfield High School, Smoketown Road, Woodbridge.
Asking for $20 Donation will be split in half & awarded to the David Alan Ruhren Scholarship Fund & Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund in Ruhren's name.
The ride will end with a free picnic and door prizes at Lunga Park, Quantico Marine Corps Base.
Best time to arrive is after 9:30 AM to register, (there is no limit as to the number of bikes) the activities start at 11:00 AM, ride is at 1200 noon.
Anyone interested I will eat breakfast at 9:00 AM at the VFW, Dale City.

For Rally in the Valley dinner:
Suggested attire for Saturday night dinner is White Shirts, Black pants/jeans, vest and maroon tie. Chapter E will have a luncheon on Friday (at Rally) at Allen Scott's camper, info will be put out at the meeting. Dinner (don’t want to miss this) at Home Place. Chapter will meet at the camping area at the Civic Center on Thursday evening at 3:45 and leave at 4:00 p.m This is an awesome place with a home cooked meal. Dan is also doing a covered bridge ride that morning and will try and be back for the dinner. You can talk to Dan & Martha Jo Fritz on this. We need to take a head count before we leave for the dinner on Thursday night and call in the number going. If you or anyone that wants to sit with us, has to be at the camping area to take a count or let someone know to count you in on sitting with us at the table. "E" Team !!!!Julie and I have decided (at the last moment) to do something different for the Holiday weekend.
We are inviting everyone to a cookout at our home this Sunday the 2nd at 5:00 pm. This will be something we have never done before but I heard about it from a friend whose done a few of these. Here is how it works. We will provide a grill, plates, napkins, utensils, all condiments, cups, ice and sodas. If you would like to attend, you will need to bring whatever meat you wish to grill (or have grilled) and either a side dish, salad or dessert to share. That way, no RSVP's are required. We will also be providing marshmallows to roast over a fire pit after dark.
Please feel free to bring any games (indoors or outdoors) to play. We want this to be a fun night of fellowship for anyone who does not have other plans that night. If you need directions or have any questions, please feel free to call me.

Sept 16th - Chapter Meeting - Chapters P, U & V
We are pleased to announce that the Chapters P, U and V will be holding a joint meeting in September at Holiday Lake State Park just east of Appomattox Court House on Rt.24E all chapters are welcome & encouraged to come out and have fun & fight the bugs. For direction to the state park go to Google Maps and type in Holiday State Park, VA and it will bring up a good map and give directions from your location.We have rented a picnic shelter all day. It will be a bring your own food & drinks. We think alot of the chapters will be there around noon or a little after. We have the shelter from 8 am to dark on Sunday Sept 16th; the meeting will start promptly at 3 PM.
This will be the chapters regular meeting with 50/50, door prizes and lots of fun. Chapter bars will be available as we are holding this as our regular meetings.

Bike Show August 11th!
Hello Friends,Don’t forget the bike show this Saturday, August 11th. We need all your support for this one. It will be held at Fredericksburg Motor Sports. Start time is 10:00 a.m. but we need to be there between 8-8:30 a.m. to get everything set up. Trophies will be given out at 1:00 p.m. we will be selling hot dogs $1.00 each, Chips $.50 and water/drinks $1.00 each. To register for the bike show, the cost is 15.00.
We will be discussing the bike show at the staff meeting Tuesday night. So far, this is what I have: onions/mustard/ketchup/relish from Bev (Gordon also has some of these), 200 hot dogs, 200 hot dog buns, 200 bags of chips and 200 drinks (name brand) from Keri (or whomever else is helping them), 200 bottles of water from Kathy O’Neal. Please let me know if you need any one else to help since we’ve had some volunteers. For cooking I have Keith, Frankie, and a few standbys. We will need 10 bags of ice and I don’t think I have anyone for that yet. Dan will bring a grill, chapter has a grill and we might need one more. Canopies, tents and tables will be provided by Gordon and Dan. I have Wanda and helpers to work the food table and Nancy doing registration. I know we will need a lot more help. I’m sure we’ll need runners in case we forget something or run out of something. I will pass along some more information after tomorrow’s staff meeting. There is still plenty to do. Thank you to those that have volunteered.

Ride To Chapter U (Poker Run)
Its time to ride again. This Saturday the 29th, the “E” Team will hit the road to visit Chapter U of Hanover for their annual Poker Run. On site registration is $8 per person or $15 per couple. Bike Show August 11
Hello Friends,We will need lots of help with the bike show. The bike show starts at 10:00 and we will need everyone there by 8:30 if possible to set up. The last bike in to be judged will be 11:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. we will do the trophies. Registration is $15.00 per bike.
